INNOVATION TALK: 5G and Business Disruption
The telecoms industry is a huge market in itself and it spurs the digitalization and growth of many other industries. However, the service revenue growth for mobile communication service providers has been declining and is close to flat.
The combination of 5G and digitalization, enabled by technologies such as AI, cloud, robotics, etc., creates new opportunities and disrupts existing business models. Ericsson has analysed the 5G business potential across different industries and uses cases, and anticipates that by 2030 up to USD 700 billion of 5G-enabled business-to-business value is possible to be addressed by service providers.
However, even if the rapidly-changing 5G-IoT landscape offers enormous potential, it is complex and not without its challenges. Deciding on the best way forward requires a comprehensive understanding of issues surrounding the addressable markets, the driving forces and barriers for different industries to adopt 5G-enabled use cases. The journey to build 5G business for the future starts now.
